For laboratory measurements of grain-size distribution of particles irrespective of their physical and chemical properties. Measurements are taken in the air.
For measurements of substances with moist and bonding grain in the range from 0.5 to 1000 µm
The analyser determines size, shape and specific surface of the particles.
The measurement method of the IPS analyser is complex and consists in measurement with regard to influence of laser diffraction for the smallest particles in order to go on, for larger particles, in a continuous and gradual manner, to measure changes in the radiation stream scattered by moving particles.In this way, certain disadvantages of the “laser diffraction” used in the entire measuring range in which individual, largest particles yield weak changes in the diffraction pattern have been eliminated.
There are no optical limitations for measuring individual, small and large particles in the IPS analysers.
The laser radiation stream in infrared not only identifies size of particles, but also renders counting them precisely in the entire measuring range possible.
An electric impulse corresponds to each participle. The impulse is proportional to the particle size.
The set of particles is initially measured with the division into 4096 channels and converted (calibrated) into 256 size classes, which are available to a user.
The analyser consist in measuring sensor  and measuring system , that is integrated with automatic, electronic feeding system , that assures the continuity of the measurement and controls concentration of the particles in the measuring zone. Computer  controls whole measuring process.
The miniature compressor  with special characteristic adjusted to gradual airflow is main operating element.
The ultrasonic feeder  is used to separate particles in feeding process. The US feeder has shape of a concave vessel, with bottom that vibrates with frequency ~40 kHz and amplitudes of few mm. Thanks to vibrations wet substances (e.g. ash) are getting dry during
measurement, so even high humidity of the probe has no effect on results. For measurements of various, different powders the control of amplitude and number of
ultrasonic impulses has 4000 intermediate states between zero and maximum feeder activation.
For precise feeding the control of airflow is necessary as well. The airflow rises separated particles and transports them to measuring zone. The control of airflow has around 300 speed levels. So precise control of feeder allows to measure every single particle in a very fast way (up to dozen or so thousands particles per second) and to avoid particles coincidence in measuring zone.
Apart from the measurement program determining grain-size distribution of particles, the other, very useful programs are also provided, e.g. optimisation program for a given parameter in the granulation function, calibration program converting granulations in a given calibration, whether sieve, aerometric or spherical. Test results are presented on multicoloured diagrams and in the form of legible tables.
